WSJ reporting two more meningitis-related deaths in California. HOWEVER.. #HIV #AIDS

What’s not mentioned in the article other than in passing is that they were four months ago.

This is going to gain traction on the internet quick, so let’s keep it in perspective.

  • These cases are four months apart
  • There is no established connection between any of the deceased at this time.
  • There is NO verified information that this particular strain of meningitis is the same as what’s currently been deemed an outbreak in NY.
  • The only commonality at this time between any of them is that they were all gay men.  Period.

Once this hits the pool, all of the amateur health “reporters” are going to fly out of the woodwork.  John Aravosis does not have a medical degree, and to the best of my knowledge neither does Karen Ocamb.  Neither is city councilman John Doran. Nor do any of the other 100 sites that are going to have this in their publish queue tomorrow.  For that matter, neither do I.  Though I do have an EMT, two degrees in psychology and one in journalism. – among others.  None of them are an MD though.  My purpose in publishing this is to give you the facts, break it down as best as I can, and point you to resources FAR smarter on the subject than I am – nothing more.

Be smart. Get your health related information from a reputable source, and that’s not a gay blog.  Hit the CDC’s site.  See your health care provider. See the Q&A from LA County.  It’s your health, trust it to a source that knows what they’re doing.

(In keeping with my own policy and ethics, I redacted the names of the two other victims. They will not be published on this site, and there’s no public interest reason in my doing so)
