Everything that Catches my Attention

Shameless self promotion, part 87.2.1

Ok, Just a few housecleaning issues and a mention on my advertising:

  1. I am pretty happy with the advertising changes around here after the great big Google blow up. They love me again, and I spent those weeks searching for an advertising supplier as well as mapping out space for them that wouldn’t choke the shit out of my content. I think I have a nice balance, so if the particular ad does interest you, give it a click. That’s how I get paid for the space, and while I don’t rely on the money it sure as hell doesn’t hurt either.
  2. Advertising Part Two: Despite the protests of virtually every other website out there, you actually CAN control what particular topic advertises on your site. There isn’t a supplier out there that doesn’t give you control over who flashes into the space. To that end, I’m not particularly thrilled that Oraquick is advertising on my site as well as Miller Lite. But, I have not figured out the controls on that particular ad supplier just yet, so bear with me.  My giving space to either of them is not an endorsement of their products.
  3. Want to advertise on here? Let’s talk, I guarantee you that I’ll beat any prices out there. To be clear, I am not a great behemoth in the blogging world, but I have been holding my own in regard to page views and visitors.  I have been getting on average 6000-8000 visitors per month (30% of them are first timers) and more than 14,000 page views. Your ads will also be seen by a smaller, loyal audience who doesn’t want to slog through the usual “gay marriage is all we live for – we’re victims – that chicken sandwich place hates us – look who hates us now, politicians are out to destroy us” bullshit.  There’s a time and a place for all of that to be sure, but WHEN IT’S ALL YOU WRITE ABOUT, it quickly becomes cliche’ and far from being representative of the gay community as a whole.
  4. I’m thinking of opening the site up to music reviews and news. If you think you’ve got the chops to contribute, then drop me a line.  The pay? Zero. Sorry, there just isn’t enough money for now.  But, as I grow I can promise a share of the advertising revenue and we’ll have that chat before you get going so you don’t think you’re getting screwed over. If your work is bringing in the visitors, which in turn are hitting the advertisers, then you’re only entitled to a cut of the loot right?
  5. Ditto on adding other writers to my site.  I’m always on the hunt for people who want a space to get their work out there with no if’s, and’s or buts on what you contribute.
  6. I’ve already started to open the site up to book reviews, and am happy to add your work to the list.  Drop me a line if you want to get included.
  7. Want to follow me on Twitter? Here you go. Be warned, I do not censor myself over there.
  8. I’m also out there on Google Plus
