Why the indecency probe of Stuart Walker is utterly irrelevant

Why the indecency probe of Stuart Walker is utterly irrelevant

Sometimes, virtually everybody with a website pisses me off and today is that day.

Today, every website that’s posted information on the vicious murder of Stuart Walker in Scotland is having a time of it posting the information shared that he was the subject of an indecency probe regarding the alleged incident with a minor:

As investigations continue into the gruesome murder of gay Scottish barman Stuart Walker, who was found beaten and burned in a rural area over the weekend, more details on Walker’s background have begun to emerge, including one detail that police say is unrelated but is being reported widely:

And then this particular website goes so far as to collect every single article out there on the subject.  I’ll spare you the agony of having to read all the recycling I’ve seen on this today because I need to make my point on this one.

Nobody is asking why this little tidbit is coming out now, amongst some of the other facts that are clouding what happened:

1.  He was supposedly sexually assaulted – because his shirt was not at the scene.  Proves nothing, if he’s fighting for his life it damn sure could have come off in the attack.

2.  This wasn’t a homophobic attack, but investigators won’t rule it out either.  Wait, what?  It’s not homophobia, but you just won’t say so concretely.  Make up your mind.

3.  He probably knew his attackers.  Not with this much rage.  Walker was beaten and set on fire, and reports are mixed as to whether or not he was still alive when that happened.  Nothing but a damaged mind could do that if they knew him.  Those are the actions of a stranger whom he did not know, who wanted him to suffer and left Walker’s remains out on display.  They were proud of what they’d done.

4.  Why is it at all relevant that Walker was the subject of an indecency probe?  It’s not, and you just can’t look me in the eye and tell me that’s not an attempt to change public opinion from “the poor man was murdered because he was gay”, to “He had it coming because he was a pedophile”.  Releasing this information now, with worldwide outcry about Walker’s death is nothing more than an attempt to taint the victim.

Was he a pedophile?  Doubtful, as if there were enough information to arrest him the police certainly would have but instead two months lapsed with no forward movement on the investigation which is now closed.  By every single account of Walker from people who knew him, he was the type of guy you wanted to be around – not the type you feared leaving your children with.

And nobody is challenging this release of information?  Bullshit.  In a sea of gay websites where 25 people can offer their .02 cents on the latest bit of drivel that’s fallen out of Michelle Bachman’s mouth this is hardly a subject to keep quiet on.  Gay rights don’t end at our shores, nor do we hold the concession on things that need to change for the better.

It’s high time we keep our eye on the ball.  A man is dead, and he died horribly.  We should be asking why instead of tripping over the hurdles investigators are throwing out on the path.

A good point well made. There has been so much judgemental and unfounded rubbish put online about this by people who didn’t know Stuart, don’t know Cumnock, heck have never even visited Scotland.  The boy was killed in a brutal way.  Surely finding out who did it would be a better focus for the media and online brigade than setting him up as a gay icon and/or assassinating his character.

Thank you and I agree. Putting out this bit that he’d been investigated now is nothing more than a smokescreen to get the entire world to dial back the outrage because of the heinous way he died. It serves no other purpose and everybody from the BBC to gay websites everywhere picked it up and slapped it back out without asking the $64,000 question: why is this even relevant?

Bullshit: everybody’s got skeletons in their closet and dealing with Walker’s now is futile. They need to focus more on who did this to him rather than trying to taint public opinion of him.

Completely agree. First thing i said when Strathclyde Police released this info was…Why and how is that helpful or relevant…and I said so in Twitter…another Braehead type announcement.

I agree, it’s utterly useless other than to take a bit of heat off the police.

I live in a Welsh equivalent of Cumnock…..the equation “Gay=Paedophile” is very common (indeed the Vatican has tried to shift the child abuse scandal on to gay clergy).

I wish as much space was being given to the report ….Pink Paper and Record…saying that this allegation was considered to be malicious and made by an (ex ) partner of a friend of Stuart Walker to get back at him.

And Reporting Scotland who have had a presence in Cumnock every night have just repeated the allegation but not a word about The Crown Office saying it was malicious…did Catriona Renton really not know this ???

I had a Daily Record reporter tweet me (and he’s since deleted it) saying that there were rumours that the report was malicious, they’d looked into it. But, apparently rumours weren’t enough for someone to decide and hold off publishing it at all. It seemed far easier to them to taint the victim, and THEN go look for facts to exonerate them tomorrow. In the meantime, they left the family of Stuart Walker grieving for his death and a tainted reputation. Heartless and cruel, all in the name of selling a few more papers.

And tonight on Reporting Scotland Aileen Clark (sp) again repeated the allegation about the 12 year old but again not a word about the Crown Office saying it was malicious etc…what is it with BBC Scotland. I have lodged a complaint with them about this imbalanced and shoddy reporting.
