Rachel Maddow expresses an honest to God sane viewpoint on gay marriage

I expect that the marriage mafia will all promptly ignore this story, because, well, it makes total sense:

The network’s top anchor is profiled on the cover of the latest Hollywood Reporter, and in the interview Maddow sounds doubtful about whether marriage — which she has championed on air — is a panacea for LGBT people.

“I feel that gay people not being able to get married for generations, forever, meant that we came up with alternative ways of recognizing relationships,” she said. “And I worry that if everybody has access to the same institutions that we lose the creativity of subcultures having to make it on their own. And I like gay culture.”

Maddow has been with partner Susan Mikula since they met in 1999. They live together in Massachusetts with their dog, Poppy, a black Labrador. And they’ve never taken advantage of their home state’s laws allowing same-sex marriage.

“We know a lot of people who have gotten married,” she said, “but I don’t think we feel any urgency about it.”

So, now that the gay uberbloggers poster child for visibility has expressed a sane, rational viewpoint on gay marriage what will happen next?

a.  They will burn her in effigy.

b.  Millions of Marriage Mafia lesbians will all trade in their Maddow haircuts and glasses for something a bit more practical

c.  She’ll be voted off the island, no longer allowed to be a lesbian.

d.  They will all go to sleep tonight on tear stained pillows, now that Rachel has abandoned us all.

e.  The story will be summarily ignored, because of course any dissenting viewpoint is wrong.

f.  Someone will actually have a spasm of sanity and say, “Hey, maybe she’s got a point.

The smart money is on A to E.

At the risk of being pelted with a creme pie I feel the same way as Rachel.

While I’m bi and almost went the marriage route once long ago in a galaxy far far away to a gal, even living here in CT if I was hooked up with a guy marriage is so far off my radar screen it doesn’t even register as a blip.

That doesn’t mean of course everyone doesn’t deserve the right to marry but I don’t think we have seen the “anticipated droves” of those who want to marry doing so.

I’m of the mind it’s the relationship that matters not the slip of paper, “living in sin” as they use to call living out-of-wedlock is more fun.

Besides these days I’m saving myself for when I semi-retire to AZ and find a rich one in Scottsdale, guy or gal to take care of me.

Yes I know I have no shame .. most gold diggers don’t .. lol.
