Not News: Thief Steals Cellphone. Newsworthy: Thief Targeted This Man Because He’s Blind
Those that know me personally know that someone I’m very much in love with is blind, so this hits home for that reason and that this is the exact phone we were talking about not 24 hours ago.
A blind man is appealing for the return of his special mobile phone after it was taken from a bar in Worcester.
The Nokia N86 was taken from inside Lloyds Bar in Crown Passage at about 3.30pm on Monday, July 5, where Aj Ahmed was drinking with friends.
Mr Ahmed, aged 29, said the phone has now been reported stolen and deactivated, but he is keen to get it back because it has speech software on it, which cost him £250 and helps him in his day-to-day life.
“The software is called Talks and it is invaluable to me,” he said.
“I can’t see the screen so it reads what is on the screen at the time. So, for example the menu, texts and if I want to ring someone it will give the numbers and names. Without it I can’t really use a phone. I have got a really old phone that I am now having to use in its place, but it is broken.”
Police are studying CCTV footage taken inside the bar to try to identify the thieves.
Mr Ahmed, who is captain of the Great Britain Blind Football Team, said: “I was out with friends and we were sat in the family section in the pub. I went away from my seat for about 30 seconds when I realised that I didn’t have my phone on me, and when a friend went back to get it, it wasn’t there anymore.
“We rang it and it did ring on the other end but it just went to voicemail.
“It is so important to me to have my phone, and I am now having to rely much more on friends. The phone is now useless to whoever took it as it has been blocked and they can’t use it, so please could they return it.”
A spokesman for West Mercia Police said officers were studying the footage.
