Everything that Catches my Attention

Google’s Colossal Fail of the Day

Google’s Colossal Fail of the Day

I thought I was seeing things with this one, but sadly I wasn’t.

So, it’s time for me to update my site, read the news from all over and I see the following ad, inserted by Google into the feed for AmericaBlog – one of the more respected LGBT websites out there.

I thought I had missed something.  Maybe the writer’s at AmericaBlog were doing a write up on this website and I wasn’t paying attention.

I follow instructions; it says “click here” so I did.  Lo and behold, I’m taken to this site.  They were not writing a piece on this outfit – Google screwed the pooch on this one.

The executive summary on the Public Advocate of the United State’s 2010 American Morality Survey says that,

“Radical homosexuals claim YOU support same-sex marriage, special job rights and promotion of homosexuality in schools.  Please fill out the survey below and let your voice be heard.

Contacting and organizing pro-family conservatives costs a great deal of money. After filling out the American Morality Survey below, please make a generous contribution to Public Advocate of the United States to keep this program running. “

Oh, I took their survey all right; just so I could see who the hell it all belonged to.  I was given a very sincere thank you email complete with more propaganda.  It’s far too long to put in there, but this is one of their more pressing points about the perverts like me:

Dear fellow American,

I would like to thank you for completing the American Morality survey.  The Radical Homosexuals claim you and other pro-family Americans actually now support same-sex marriage, special job preferences for homosexuals and promotion of the homosexual lifestyle in schools.

Now that I have your completed survey, we can prove to Congress that the American people do not support the Homosexual Agenda.
I know you understand just how serious this issue is.

You see, the Radical Homosexuals are storming through Washington demanding passage of their agenda.

And with the passage of Thought Control last year, they say NOW is the time to push their perverse “life-style” on every man, women and child in America.

And they have been insisting YOU actually support them.

I’ll spare you the rest, as well as the 14 buttons asking for donations throughout their pitch.  It turns out that the ad belongs to your friend and mine, Eugene Delgaudio.  I did a little tap dance all over the last insane rambling of his I came across.

Ok, Google let’s face it.  You’re certainly entitled to make your bucks any way you see fit.  But you might want to check your own algorithms in deciding whose ad goes where.  Putting one of Eugene’s ad’s on the feed for an LGBT website probably isn’t very well thought out.

It's not the first time Google has run anti-gay content on our ads; I would say this has occurred about a half dozen times since Prop 8.

I must not have been paying attention the other times; this is the first it's been so amazingly glaring. It's unfortunate they can't be a bit more discriminating in how it's determined what is fed into where. Thanks for the reply – dm

What Google wants is for the link to be clicked. Pay Per Click is how they make their money. The fun part is that the person who PAYS for the click is Eugene Delgaudio. And he pays whether or not folks send him donations. And the site that the ad is on gets some of the $, whether Delgaudio gets donations or not.You being a mere lad [grin], you may not recall back in the early to mid 80's, when Pat Robertson did one of his patented Moronic Pronouncements on Homosexuality. Some gay and lesbian groups promoted having folks call his 800 donations number and chatting with the workers – just to literally make him pay. Because, just like pay per click, 800 number lines get charged by the call (AND by the minute people spend on it, bonus!) by the phone company. If Pat/700 Club got lots of calls from folks just calling and chatting not donating, the reasoning was, he'd get hit where it hurts him the most – in his wallet. In short – if that ad flashes on pro-LGBT sites, where it gets lots of clicks but no donations, Google makes money, the pro site gets money, and the money comes from Eugene Delgaudio's pocket.Works for me!

Seconds after I finished posting my comment here, I noticed the Google Ad on Jeremy Hooper's RSS feed.
