The Revised DADT Policy

The Revised DADT Policy

Last week the Pentagon announced that it will relax it’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” rules on gays in the military.  The move was applauded by gay rights advocates as the first step toward repealing it altogether (I was a voice of dissention on their efforts).

Via Mother Jones, I have a copy of their revised rules which shows exactly what has been tweaked.

The new rules are intented to make it more difficult for military members to be discharged for being gay.  And yet, they still offer no specific protection for any gay or lesbian enlisted personnel or officer.

It’s going to take some doing before I stand behind their changes.  Between their action and the DOJ brief from yesterday in support of DADT, I still don’t see much evidence that the President’s wish for repeal is being taken care of with any expediency.
